Kiev Pechersk Lavra is Orthodox monastery founded in 1051 by Antoniy and Feodosiy in caves nearby summer prince residence near Kiev. In the 11th century monastery became the centre of dissemination of Christianity in Kievan Rus. In the 12th century monastery got the status of lavra – the main large monastery.

Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kiev is an outstanding architectural monument of Kievan Rus’ and work of monumental painting of the 11th century. Today, it is one of the city’s best known landmarks and the first Ukrainian patrimony to be inscribed on the World Heritage List. In chronicles it is said that it was founded in 1017 or 1037. Chronicle writers tell us that constructor of the cathedral was Prince Yaroslav the Wise.

Sofiyivsky National landscape park (Uman, Cherkasy region) is one of the most famous examples of late 18th or early 19th century European landscape garden design that has been preserved to the present time. Modern Sofiyivsky Park is functioning first of all as ‘Historical park’.

The city, Kamianets-Podilskyi, is located in the center of Volyn on the Smotrych River, a tributary of the Dniester. It consists of several parts: New and Old town; Rus and Polish manors; Karvasar, Vydrivky and Pidzamcha. The most ancient part is Old town that is located on sort of peninsula, created by the curve of the Smotrych River.

Hotyn is one of the most ancient towns in Ukraine, which is 1000 years old. The Khotyn Fortress’s beginning goes back to the Khotyn Fort, which was built in the 11th century by Prince Vladimir the Great as one of the border fortifications of southwestern Kievan Rus’.

Khortytsia is a large island in the Dnieper River. The island has unique rare flora and fauna, including oak groves, spruce woods, meadows, and virgin steppe. The northern part of the island is very rocky and high (rising 30m above the river bed) in comparison to the southern part, which is low, and often flooded by the waters of the Dnieper.

Livadia is a picturesque place of the Crimea peninsula that was in the center of important historic events. The palace was built in the Renaissance style with gothic elements in 1910-1911.
Livadia Palace was a summer retreat of the last Russian tsar, Nicholas II. It was the first sanatorium for peasants in the 1920s.
